Astra’s computer use is a god damn game changer (Blind)
- zeekq (Google): Low IQ PM. Thinks if a cursor shakes itself visually to open a terminal then it is magic but when an agent opens it in background using a terminal command thats just meh.
- msftbad (Microsoft): Yea okay, I was doing this with selenium in 2015
- ilovesoft (Prosper): Stop advertising ‘sooooooo goooooooood’ products unless you get paid. Let the product speak for itself .
Figma is a joke (Blind)
- werkwerkw (ByteDance): AI is eating their lunch. Too bad. Their Eng culture seems decent.
- ibsgtnt (Google): Still 9.5b too much
- g*d2 (Roblox): Databricks just got lucky because of this fake AI boom. Otherwise you would have lost at least 50% in private market valuation since COVID raise. Your leadership is delaying IPO since they know your stock’s trajectory is not going to be any different than figma’s after IPO.
Manager was explicit (Blind)
- mrktspoken (Meta): Dont know, but I have a feeling that the promo is not happening.
- BonziBuddy (Adobe): You are marked for death. There is no PIP at Adobe these days. Probably political/personality conflict so don’t sweat what you can’t control. But definitely dust off the old resume.
- chimetimed (ex-Chime): Life pro-tip - never ask about a promo directly. First ask your manager thoughts on your performance. If it sounds mostly positive THEN bring up the promo topic to get their thoughts and any gaps to work on. It avoids this specific awkward situation where you’re so far off the mark. OP thought he’s performing above expectations while really performing below. It’s totally misaligned with his manager which is never a good thing.
People hate Flock so much its employees are now demoralized and thinking of quitting (r/technology)
- esotericvoid: …good?
- Ganondorf-Dragmire: Good. They should feel that way. Most work deserves respect. Most…. Enabling mass surveillance is one of the exceptions. These people should be ashamed of themselves. They have the moral obligation to quit and find work that does not fuck over everyone else on the planet.
- Sojio: I feel like this Flock hatred is just paving the way for more secretive operations. Like Flock is a sacrificial lamb of sorts. No-one is talking about Toka Group or any of the other massive companies that operate exactly like flock. Toka group being a FAR more terrifying proposition than Flock. I guess its a start, but I’m worried that Flock will fall, and everyone will lose their motivation because they will feel like they’ve won. Whereas flock is just a small part of a much much larger issue.
Shopify CEO says employees’ ‘slop grenades’ are making more work for everyone else (r/technology)
- A-RayAllDay: Wasn’t he bragging about their AI use not too long ago?
- LeCollectif: Yes, in fact, when I was laid off from Shopify along with 1500 others, the remaining teams were encouraged to use AI to fill the gaps. Aside from that, Shopify was once know for their outstanding customer support. Those folks were also let go and replaced with AI, which they’re hilariously advertising on podcasts right now. Fuck Shopify. Let them drown in the slop they actively sought to create.
- Afraid-Detective1222: My last job was AI first. They had gotten to the point where they had an internal AI agent that would examine the requirements and write the code. It would create and comment on the MR as well. They had a different agent that would write the tests both unit and E2E tests. Right about the time I got laid off, they were full on into doing full continuous delivery. Even before that, we’d have 2 or 3 outages a week due to crappy code. I’m so glad they laid me off, because that whole nonsense was going to explode spectacularly at some point.
