Spent 90% of my last interview trying to prove I’m not cheating. (Blind)
- Fuitti (ByteDance): Sorry to say, there’s a big chance your friend is right. And you should fix your communication problem before your next interview. Instead of being pissy about it, ask your friend to mock with you, or pay someone to mock with you, or use a service like apexІntervіеwer. It’s how I eventually landed an offer.
- BbUW43 (Yelp): Happened to me… 45 minute interview went on for 1.5 hours. I solved the problem in time with optimizations, but spend the rest of the time convincing the interviewer that I know what I am doing. Still got a reject.
- hAvD08 (TikTok): Regardless of these new cheating tools, communicating is just as, if not more important, than being able to solve the technical question. Even before AI, if you solved a question without asking any questions or even explaining yourself clearly, even if you solved the question correctly, that would be a red flag.
Uber just cut 3,300 jobs (Blind)
- apooooo (Meta): Uber could be run by 20 engineers and a handful of lawyers
- plz delete (JPMorganChase): No real loss.
- JesusBezos (Amazon): Out with the old (carbon) and in with the new (silicon.)
Which FAANG will survive the AI bubble pop with least damage? (Blind)
- ㄨㄨ (ex-Google): Netflix will have the least damage but also the least growth…
- martbee (PayPal): Looks like nobody wants meta to survive 😀
- EnriqueGPT (PayPal): Siri brought it into this world, and Siri will take it out.
No AI until high school: NYC schools announce major classroom technology overhaul (r/technology)
- Salt_End_4275: In the 1980s and 90s, we learned about computers and all of the Windows applications in school. We learned how to type, how to use search engines, and also how to search a library. My children learned NONE of this in school, within the past 10 years. No document processing. No typing. They have had to learn by doing, but you still have many kids typing around 10 words per minute. My kids have used tablets and laptops, sure, but they weren’t taught how to use them, how they work, how to take care of them, etc. While I’m happy to have done that teaching myself, it’s a sad state of affairs that schools don’t teach those basic skills and knowledge anymore, when it is more relevant than ever.
- Otherwise-Anxiety815: They need to treat AI use in schools the way they treated plagiarism when I was growing up. Stop messing around.
- HakuohoFan: Lol, yeah, just give them access once they’re in high school because all high schoolers are know for their impulse control.
SEN BERNIE SANDERS: Yes, we must hit the pause button on AI before it is too late (r/technology)
- Randvek: “Old man yells at cloud” is rarely this literal.
- IlIlIlIllllIIliIILll: Id rather we hit the “pause button” on the bailouts of big business when none of this unproven technology they went all-in on economically pans out as advertised.
- iamagainstit: what would “hitting the pause button” actually mean? These models are already out there, both from the big companies and as open weight models. Are you going to make it illegal for people in the U.S. to do any further CS research on AI? Like what does it actually look like in practice?
